The Foundation of the House of Literature and Creative Work Houses has existed since 1990. Its Founders are : the Polish Writers’ Association (SPP), the Polish Writers’Union (ZLP) and the Polish PEN Club.
The Foundation administers two properties: the House of Literature in Warsaw and the Stefan Zeromski House of Creative Work”Astoria” in Zakopane.
The House of Literature in Warsaw is located in a historic building at 87/89 Krakowskie Przedmieście Street, next to the Castle Square and the Royal Castle.
It houses literary organizations and institutions as well as the Library of the Polish Writers’ Donation with its collection of about 70 000 volumes.
For 70 years the House of Literature has been the home of the Polish writers’ associations and the seat of Polish literature and the place of sharing intellectual ideas. For years writers and artists of leading Warsaw theatrical stages have been meeting here, reciting poems and reading literary works.
There are 13 spacious and pleasantly decorated guest rooms situated in the House of Literature. It's best attraction is the location in the heart of the old Warsaw and
a wonderful view of the Old Town, Royal Route, Vistula River and the National Stadium. There is no other place in Warsaw where King Sigismund on his column looks directly into the window.
Located on the first floor of the House of Literature is a large conference room in
a genuine Art Deco style, accommodating up to 180 people. It hosts many important events of Polish literary life.
The room, equipped with audio- visual facilities is available for rent to organize conferences, training sessions or receptions.
On the ground floor and in the basement of the House there is the Literatka, a popular cafe and restaurant.
Villa Astoria is situated in a quiet area of Zakopane, at 12 Droga do Białego St., just a 15 minutes walk from the center, and the popular Krupowki Street and a skijump.
Astoria is the home of “The Stefan Żeromski House of Creative Work”.
The guest rooms are available all the year round both for visitors connected with the literary environment and other guests too.
The House of Creative Work in Zakopane is visited by many great writers and poets. During the stay in Astoria in 1996 Wisława Szymborska received the news of the Nobel Prize.
Many guests visiting Astoria praised its unique family atmosphere, delicious meals and homemade pastries.
